First Firefox 6 build next week, Firefox 7 by May, and aurora channel introduced
Along with the faster 6-week release cadence, Firefox's new Chrome-like release channels have also been given names and anticipated update frequencies. The most notable change is the introduction of a new alpha channel -- which is analogous to Chrome Canary -- that will be called 'aurora' and will update nightly. Aurora will be where fixes and features are tested, and either approved for Beta, or backed out to Central. Aurora will have a new icon, too.
The Nightly (mozilla-central) channel will remain unchanged in name and frequency, but it will gain a new 'nightly icon.' The Beta (mozilla-beta) channel will remain as-is, with new builds rolling out weekly. The Release (mozilla-release) channel will also remain as-is, with security and stability updates coming every 6 to 12 weeks.
It should be noted that the names (including 'aurora') are not necessarily final, but it's unlikely that they'll change. We're also awaiting the arrival of the new 'channel switching' technology, which should arrive in the next few days -- in time for the release of Firefox 6 aurora!

Windows 8 Explorer to feature Ribbon UI, SkyDrive and Mesh integration?
The Ribbon, like in Microsoft Word and Excel, is context-aware, adding tabs for specific tasks which apply to the folder you're viewing -- such as library or picture management. You can also make out two new buttons in the status bar, which allow you to change the current folder's view style.
It's clear from all the placeholder images and repeated elements that this is very much a work in progress, but featuring the Ribbon more prominently in Windows 8 would certainly be a logical progression for Microsoft. It's slowly become more ubiquitous, moving beyond Office and into Wordpad, Paint, and several of the Windows Live Essentials applications.
There's more to the screenshots than the Ribbon UI, however. Our friend Long Zheng has noted two interesting elements in the images: Web sharing and sync (image after the break). That would likely mean users will be able to quickly upload files to SkyDrive and synchronize using Live Mesh right from Explorer in Windows 8. That's not a total surprise considering many of the earliest leaked images of Windows 8 showed Windows Live integration on the desktop.

Mary J. Blige Dishes On Her 'Crazy' Led Zeppelin Covers
'I've listened to their music since I was a child,' says the R&B diva, who recorded 'Stairway to Heaven' and 'Whole Lotta Love.'
By James Montgomery, with reporting by Larry Carroll
<P>You wouldn't peg Mary J Blige as the black-light-and-tapestry sort, but, as has become readily apparent in recent weeks, she absolutely loves Led Zeppelin. </P><P> </P><P>In early February, reports began circulating that <a href="/news/articles/1631297/mary-j-blige-records-led-zeppelins-stairway-to-heaven.jhtml">Blige had re-recorded Zeppelin's classic "Stairway to Heaven,"</a> working with Travis Barker, "American Idol" judge Randy Jackson and guitarist Steve Vai on the track, which is slated to appear on the international reissue of her <i>Stronger With Each Tear</i> album, due Monday. </P><P> </P><P></p><div style="margin: 0px 10px 10px 0px; float:left;"><embed src="http://media.mtvnservices.com/mgid:uma:video:mtv.com:491065" width="256" height="223" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" flashVars="configParams=instance%3Dnews%26vid%3D491065" allowFullScreen="true" wmode="transparent" allowScriptAccess="always" base="."></embed></div><p> </P><P> </P><P>But after she had recorded "Stairway," Blige continued to get the Led out, covering <i>another</i> Zeppelin classic — the thunderous "Whole Lotta Love" — for the album too. And when MTV News caught up with her on the <i>Essence</i> Black Women in Hollywood red carpet, she told us all about channeling her inner Robert Plant for the tracks, a process that came much easier than you'd probably imagine. </P><P> </P><P>"I did Led Zeppelin's 'Stairway to Heaven' and 'Whole Lotta Love' — it's crazy," she said. "I am a Led Zeppelin fan. I'm not going to say I've been to their concerts, but I've listened to their music since I was a child, and it's always moved me, especially 'Stairway to Heaven,' and 'Whole Lotta Love' is just fun." </P><P> </P><P>Blige also said she recorded another new song — a "club record" called "I Can't Wait" — for the re-release. And while it's only slated to hit shelves outside the U.S., she hopes her fans will get a chance to hear all the new songs pretty soon. </P><P> </P><P>"I want y'all to hear it," she laughed.</p>

Snooki: "I’ve Had All The Fun I’m Ever Going To Have In My Life"
Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi first confessed her marriage plans to In Touch: “I’m not thinking it may happen, I know,” she said last month. “I found the right guy... I’m just waiting for him to ask.” Well, it looks like her longtime boyfriend, Jionni LaValle, finally took the hint and put a ring on it! Last week, Snooki took to the streets flashing a sizeable square-cut rock. Today, fans won’t be surprised to learn, she has finally confirmed the obvious: Yes, that’s an engagement ring, and yes, that’s a baby bump!
Needless to say, Snooki’s bundle of joy wasn’t exactly planned. But she and Jionni seem thrilled, and more than ready to make the best of it. As she told In Touch, “I’m 24. I’ve had all the fun I’m ever going to have in my life.” (Presumably she meant... as a single girl?) Congratulations to the happy pair as they begin their next chapter! We can't wait to hear the baby names.

'Buried Life' Stars Weigh In On Presidential Election 'Chatter'
'A lot of people on college campuses right now are over it,' Jonnie Penn tells MTV News.
By Uptin Saiidi

When they're not checking off items on their bucket list, the four guys that make up "The Buried Life" have been busy touring the country to speak at colleges and universities. The MTV stars currently have a new show in development and a book due out later this month called "What Do You Want to Do Before You Die?" which they hope makes it onto the New York Times Best Sellers list — it's #19 on their bucket list.
They recently stopped by MTV News while in New York to speak at St. John's College, where they weighed in on themes of the presidential election as they relate to young people. "A lot of people on college campuses right now are over it. They kind of want to move on, they want to work, they want to apply themselves and they're just sick of all this kind of ... chatter," Jonnie Penn said. "So are we. All this chatter kind of buries you. You just want to push all that stuff away."
Disinterest among young people is already showing at the polls. On Super Tuesday, MTV News had teams dispatched in three states. In Massachusetts, correspondent Jacob Soboroff reported on the record-low turnout at Boston University — the state's largest university. Meanwhile, students in Ohio offered various reasons for not voting, from having plans to "paint" to just not caring.
When asked what the solution was to raising political awareness among college-age students, Ben Nemtin perked up. "If you have an inkling in what you feel you want to do, but you haven't done it yet, find people around that you can collaborate with. That's how this thing started. We weren't best friends growing up or anything — we came together to start 'Buried Life.' "
One solution Jonnie ultimately offered was to actually do less talking. "Some advice someone gave me that I took to heart was, listening to the people you don't agree with, take in the positions ... learn from the people you don't agree with.
"See why they feel that way and then it will help you understand why you feel the way you do, and it will also help you say, 'Well, maybe we can compromise to do this.' Because if you don't listen, you're just adding to the chatter."

'John Carter' Cheat Sheet: Everything You Need To Know
After being in development limbo for decades, film inspired by Edgar Rice Burroughs 'Mars' stories finally comes to the big screen.
By Kevin P. Sullivan
Taylor Kitsch in "John Carter"
Photo: Disney
"John Carter" may look like other sci-fi and fantasy films that you know, but there's a good reason for that. The original Edgar Rice Burroughs stories that inspired the film and dozens others like it have been stuck in development limbo since the 1930s and are finally getting their big debut on the silver screen.
But before you head out to the theater to see Taylor Kitsch leap tall buildings in a loin cloth, we've rounded up everything you need to know about "John Carter" in a helpful cheat sheet.
Edgar Rice Burroughs may best be remembered for his stories about the man among apes, Tarzan, but roughly around the time of his famous character's first appearance, he began publishing "The Princess of Mars" in serialized installments. Burroughs eventually published 11 Barsoom (Mars, to us Earthlings) books in all.
The series went on to become one of the most influential in the genre, inspiring well-known works like "Star Wars" and James Cameron's "Avatar."
Because of the series' enormous impact on science fiction and fantasy and its other-worldly visuals, the Barsoom series seemed ripe for big-screen adaptation, and indeed, MGM was set to release an animated version as early as 1936. Test footage failed to wow audiences back then, and a production went back on hold until the 1980s when Disney attempted an adaptation with Tom Cruise in the lead. That attempt also fell apart due to the limitations of technology at the time.
In 2004, "Sin City" director Robert Rodriguez signed on to helm "John Carter of Mars," using the same tech from the comic book adaptation. Ironically, it was "Sin City" that made Rodriguez unable to ultimately direct, since that movie caused him to leave the Directors Guild of America. "Iron Man" director Jon Favreau stepped in after yet another director swap, but Paramount did not renew the film rights, eventually sending the film back to Disney.
"John Carter of Mars" was set to be the first live-action film directed by Pixar regular Andrew Stanton, who won over audiences with "Finding Nemo" and "WALL-E." Stanton wrote the screenplay with Pixar-ian Mark Andrews, and Pulitzer Prize winner Michael Chabon took a pass during rewrites. One of the most controversial aspects of the production came when "of Mar" was taken out of the title for the sake of marketing. Disney's previous "Mars" movie, "Mars Needs Moms," failed at the box office, so the fourth planet became a bit taboo.
The screen version of "John Carter" stars Kitsch in the title role. In the film, Carter is a former Confederate cavalry man who finds himself mysteriously transported to the red planet. There, he quickly finds himself captive of the native four-armed, green-skinned Tharks and at odds between two human cities at war for control of Barsoom. Add in the Martian princess Dejah Thoris, played by Lynn Collins, and you have yourself a rousing sci-fi adventure.
Check out everything we've got on "John Carter."
